Make An Impression with Duncan Sherwood-Forbes - Santa Monica

Turn your line drawings into stamps and learn how to utilize Duncan’s unique style of impression-making in your ceramic practice! During this workshop, students will have their line drawings transformed into stamps, and learn how to incorporate stamping and other texturizing methods into the creation of a slab-constructed vessel.

Students will also learn how to incorporate slips and underglazes into their work via both Mishima (clay inlay) and Sgraffito (carving) techniques. Additionally, Duncan will give a demonstration of various glazing treatments that will highlight the beautiful textures and images students will create.

Topics covered: stamp making, impression making, textures, mishima, sgraffito, hand-building.

 Open to all skill levels, however basic drawing experience is highly suggested. 

*Drawing guidelines will be emailed out ahead of time, and drawings will be due 1 week prior to class for approval and stamp production.

Duncan Sherwood-Forbes is a Los Angeles-based multimedia artist and designer specializing in linear metal sculpture and continuous line drawing. Duncan uses sinuous curving line to animate his abstract portraits and figurative work, pulling inspiration from modern and contemporary art as well as graffiti, craft, and outsider art. His work has been featured in galleries around the country and is owned in private collections around the world.

Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before the start time of class, if you miss your class, or arrive too late to participate.
