Thrown and Altered Forms with Sasha Wachtel
- Location and Dates
This workshop will get you thinking of the wheel as a starting point rather than an end result, a tool for making forms that can then be manipulated to create gestural, dynamic, personal work.
We'll meet once a week for two hours, for a total of six sessions. The first meeting will start with an outline of the course and few visual examples of the kind of work we’ll be making. Each week will begin with a skills demo and discussion of a few pieces that exemplify and show the possibilities of what those skills can create. Topics will include manipulating and adding to thrown pieces, assembling multiple thrown forms, controlled collapsing, and surface manipulation, among others.
This workshop is for intermediate level wheel throwers. You should feel comfortable wedging, centerting, and throwing at least three pounds of clay. Attendees should bring their own tools and supplies; a list will be provided to you after enrolling. Free studio recycled clay will be available for you to use, or you can purchase another type at our member discount.
