Online Continuing Hand Building - Monday
3 week online continuing handbuilding class, best for those with some experience who want to go deeper in their craft.
Sessions begin the second Monday of each month and meet weekly for three weeks:
January: 1/11, 1/18, 1/25
February: 2/8, 2/15, 2/22
March: 3/8, 3/15, 3/22
Week 1: Slab Building on a Form
We will learn how to use a form to create larger cylinders, how to alter these forms using darts, and how to use these as the basis to make things like pitchers and vases. (For the first week of class, please bring a wine bottle or similarly shaped/sized cylindrical object, a piece of newspaper, tape, and a rolling pin -- or use your wine bottle.)
Week 2: Clay Marbling and Kurinuki
In this class we will learn how to use two or more clay bodies to create a marbled effect. We will also learn kurinuki carving techniques and explore ways to create beautifully organic surface textures.
Week 3: Surface Decoration
This class is all about ways to decorate the forms we have created. The teacher will demonstrate different ways to use underglaze, as well as mishima (clay inlay), and slip trailing. Students should have at least one leather hard piece to work on for this class.
Fee includes materials (to be picked up or can be shipped for the cost of shipping), 3 x live class sessions on Zoom, firing and glazing for up to 5 pieces in the colors of your choice (our team will glaze your pieces for you).
