This focused Continuing Wheel course is designed to give you the skills and confidence to produce a cohesive table setting that is both beautiful and high-functioning from cabinet to table to dishwasher and back.  Perfect for potters who want to improve their throwing skills while making functional pottery for the dining room. This is an eight week course taught by Sharon Mann.

This class is designed to improve your speed and consistency in making wheel thrown objects while creating high-functioning, stackable and durable dinnerware sets. At the end of the class you will have a table setting for two, plus an accessory kitchen piece to enjoy for generations to come.  Each class will focus on a particular item:

Week 1: Throwing Intensive; Mugs

Week 2: Trimming Mugs; Attaching Handles

Week 3: Pasta/Salad Stacking Bowl Set

Week 4: Large Serving Bowl

Week 5: Plate Set

Week 6: Lidded Jar or Casserole; Pitcher

Week 7: Glazing - Basic Techniques

Week 8: Glazing - Continued

It is recommended that you are already comfortable working on the potter’s wheel and can make basic pottery forms. Lower-skilled makers will be pushed to move faster and execute the throwing steps with confidence; higher-skilled makers will be challenged to achieve new levels of creativity. Everyone will be encouraged to have fun and enjoy this journey.

To get the most out of this class, we recommend you feel comfortable with all of the steps and processes you learned in Beginning Wheel, and can somewhat reliably wedge, center, and throw 2.5-3 lbs of clay. Typically, students take Beginning Wheel twice before taking Continuing Wheel.

SLS's recycled studio clay and bisque firing for up to 9 pieces are included in the class. For non-members, glaze firing is included with the course fee. Additional clay is available for purchase as well. You will need to supply your own tools and at least four 12" bats.
