January/February Continuing Wheel (eight week class) - DTLA (New Mateo Location)
- Class Outline
Learn what else is possible on the potter's wheel and refine the skills you learned in Beginning Wheel. This is a eight week class so you can really dive in and hone your craft. Classes meet weekly for two hours for a total of eight sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. See the class schedule below.
Challenge yourself and learn how to throw bigger, more complex, and more stable forms efficiently. Each class will focus on one category of object or skill which may include: bowls (large and small), vases and long-necked bottles, plates, advanced trimming techniques (including how to carve a proper foot and how to use a chuck to trim bottles), lidded pots, etc. Bring your ideas! This is about learning to make what you really want to make.
To get the most out of this class, you should feel comfortable with all of the steps and processes you learned in the four week Beginning Wheel course, and can somewhat reliably wedge, center, and throw 2.5-3 lbs of clay. Typically, students take Beginning Wheel twice before taking Continuing Wheel.
In addition to the weekly class meetings, we have open hours seven days a week for you to come in and work on your own.
We strongly encourage students to come to class with their own basic toolkit and four 12" bats (you can purchase these from us on the first day of class). Clay, glazes, and firing are provided by us and are included in the course fee.
This class will be held at our Arts District studio at 588 Mateo St.
