If you feel comfortable throwing basic forms and want to learn a new, specialized skill, challenge yourself, and reach a new level in your ceramic practice, making lidded objects on the wheel is a great next step. Instructor David Stone will cover a variety of forms and lid styles, as well as trimming and glazing strategies for your pieces.

This course is geared toward intermediate-level wheel throwers. It is recommended that you feel comfortable wedging, centering, and throwing with 5 lbs of clay to get the most out of this class; you should be able to work with at least 3 lbs of clay.

Course fee includes four weekly class meetings plus practice time between classes, SLS's recycled studio clay, and firing for up to 15 pieces. Students should bring their own tools and supplies:

  • Basic throwing tools (rib, needle tool, wire cutter)
  • Calipers
  • Trimming tools
  • Angled wooden knife
  • 12" bats

Clay is available for purchase at the studio if there is a particular type you'd like to work with.
