Mono-printing: Slip Transfer with Lakyn Bowman - Santa Monica

In this workshop, participants will learn how to mono-print on clay. This technique utilizes underglazes and colored slips to transfer hand-drawn images onto leather hard clay. Lakyn will demonstrate her method to achieve aged and weathered surfaces on a red clay base. Students will learn how to apply handles post decoration without messing up the design. The workshop teaches tips on composition and spacing and how that plays an important part in the end results of this diverse technique.

Day 1: Participants will throw or handbuild a form and prepare the form's surface for mono-printing.

Day 2: Participants will learn the process of mono-printing with Lakyn's expert guidance and transfer the images onto their prepared leather-hard pieces made on Day 1.

Lakyn Bowman is a full time studio potter living and working in Jackson, TN. Her work emanates the colors and patterns of the 1960’s and 70’s, showing there is still beauty in mundane utility. She received her BFA in ceramics from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2018. Her work is shown in galleries as well as invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the country. Lakyn has taught numerous online workshops throughout the pandemic and has been featured in Ceramics Monthly Magazine, and has been awarded Emerging Artist 2022. Lakyn owns a hybrid vintage shop and pottery studio named The Nine Oh Six.
