September/October Continuing Wheel (8 weeks) - DTLA Mateo St. Location
- Class Outline
Learn what else is possible on the potter's wheel and refine the skills you learned in Beginning Wheel. This class is recommended for advanced beginners and intermediate level potters who feel comfortable with the throwing process; see below for more information. This is an eight week class so you can really dive in and hone your craft; classes meet for two hours each week for a total of eight sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. See the class schedule below.
Challenge yourself and learn how to throw bigger, more complex, and more stable forms efficiently. Each class will focus on one category of object or skill which may include: bowls (large and small), vases and long-necked bottles, plates, advanced trimming techniques (including how to carve a proper foot and how to use a chuck to trim bottles), lidded pots, etc. Bring your ideas! This is about learning to make what you really want to make.
To get the most out of this class, you should feel comfortable with all of the steps and processes you learned in the four week Beginning Wheel course, and can somewhat reliably wedge, center, and throw 2.5-3 lbs of clay. Typically, students take Beginning Wheel twice before taking Continuing Wheel.
In addition to the weekly class meetings, we have open hours seven days a week for you to come in and work on your own.
Continuing Wheel students should bring their own clay, tools, and bats (we recommend at least four 12" bats). We have a supply shop at the studio where you can purchase these things if you need them. The course fee includes firing for up to 15 pieces and use of studio recycled clay.
Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before the start time of class, if you miss your class, or arrive too late to participate.
Our classes are for adults. If you have a child under 18 interested in taking a class, please contact us before enrolling.
