After taking and loving Larissa Warren's workshop ourselves, we knew we had to bring her to Still Life and we were thrilled when she agreed. This three hour workshop is about all things colored clay, including the tools and materials needed to make it, and how to incorporate it into your work through methods such as nerikomi, slab construction, pinching, and wheel throwing. Instruction will include a mixture of demonstrations by Larissa and hands-on time to make your own small piece, with plenty of time for questions and answers with the artist.

This workshop is suitable for potters of all levels from beginning to advanced, but some experience with clay is recommended. We will focus on how colour and pattern can be used to communicate moods and your own unique style, explore how to embrace colour in ceramics without the use of glazes, and learn how to make wonderful contrasting and harmonious combinations or monotone blends. Larissa, an experienced art teacher and professional exhibiting artist, will discuss her colour inspirations and how these translate into each of her unique ceramic collections.

Larissa will be leading this workshop from her home studio in Australia and broadcasting to us via Zoom. Two ways to participate:

1) Join live and in person at our workshop space at Still Life Studio Santa Monica. Tools and materials provided to try out a small project under Larissa's guidance.

2) Attend live via Zoom if you're outside of Los Angeles.

Larissa Warren (aka Ratbag Studios) has been working with clay for over 20 years. Colour, texture and pattern dominate much of her work which moves across various approaches in making; slip cast, hand building, wheel throwing and slab ware.

Larissa designs and creates distinctive ceramic artwork and small batch cup collections from her home studio, a reclaimed underground bunker, located on Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, Australia. After a successful 18 years teaching high school Art, she made the decision to concentrate on her ceramics full time, while continuing a connection with the education sector. She is currently represented by several Australian galleries and has exhibited with Thrown Contemporary in London throughout 2020. You can view her work on her website www.ratbagstudios.com or on her instagram @ratbagstudios.
