Sgraffito Workshop with Lizbeth Navarro

This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of working with slabs and decorating with underglaze using the sgraffito technique. Sgraffito comes from the Italian word “graffiare” which means to scratch.  Participants will build a piece using slabs and then decorate their creations by painting them with colored underglazes and scratching away designs to expose the clay underneath. Participants are encouraged to bring images (print outs) for inspiration. 

All pieces will be dipped in clear glaze and be ready for pick up 3 weeks after the workshop.  This workshop is beginner-friendly and everyone is encouraged to join. Liz speaks Spanish and English.

This workshop is taught by LA-based ceramic artist Liz Navarro. Liz combines her interest in art and design to create modern yet nostalgic decorative ceramic items. She draws most of her inspiration from her multicultural heritage, always surrounded by beautiful handmade objects. In her work, she enjoys incorporating traditional techniques and materials with contemporary ideas to deliver unique works of art.

Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before the start time of class, if you miss your class, or arrive too late to participate.

People aged 10 and up are welcome to enroll in this workshop.
