Learn what else is possible on the potter's wheel and refine the skills you learned in Beginning Wheel. This class is recommended for advanced beginners and intermediate level potters who feel comfortable with the throwing process; see below for more information. This is a condensed month-long class which will meet for two hours each week for a total of four sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. See the class schedule below.
850 Pico Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90405
Challenge yourself and learn how to throw bigger, more complex, and more stable forms efficiently. Each class will focus on one category of object or skill which may include: bowls (large and small), vases and long-necked bottles, plates, advanced trimming techniques (including how to carve a proper foot and how to use a chuck to trim bottles), lidded pots, etc. Bring your ideas! This is about learning to make what you really want to make.
To get the most out of this class, you should feel comfortable with all of the steps and processes you learned in the four week Beginning Wheel course, and can somewhat reliably wedge, center, and throw 2.5-3 lbs of clay. Typically, students take Beginning Wheel twice before taking Continuing Wheel.
In addition to the weekly class meetings, we have open hours seven days a week for you to come in and work on your own.
Continuing Wheel students should bring their own clay, tools, and bats (we recommend at least four 12" bats). We have a supply shop at the studio where you can purchase these things if you need them. The course fee includes firing for up to 12 pieces and use of studio recycled clay.
