In this 2-day workshop with Bryan Santamaria, participants will explore the relationship between plants and their natural habitats by creating vessels that reflect these environments.
At the start, each participant will receive a provided desert plant—one cactus and one succulent. These plants will serve as inspiration for the vessels they create.
- Participants will begin by crafting a vessel on the wheel, experimenting with different textures to enhance their designs.
- They will also hand-build a piece using a variety of tools made from natural elements, allowing for a more organic and tactile approach.
In the second session, attention will shift to staging the cacti and succulents in the finished planters. With options such as topsoil, moss, rocks, and chicken wire, each participant will have the opportunity to design a miniature desert landscape.
If time permits, the class will conclude with the creation of a final hybrid vessel—one that begins on the wheel and transitions into a hand-built, driftwood-inspired form.
This hands-on experience blends ceramics and nature, offering a creative and immersive exploration of form, texture, and design.
